Problem
Spark City was Walmart’s first game ever released to the app stores. With the majority of the development being handled by a third party vendor, the app was strife with design (and dev) issues that didn’t adhere to company or industry standards.
Role
As the UX and Visual Design SME, I provided consultation and design services to the product owner and vendor. I worked collaboratively with the product owner on refining specific game design concepts and flow for newer levels. I performed heuristic evaluations and app testing on prod and release candidates, identifying usability issues and crafting solutions to move forward.
Solution
We worked back with the vendor to come up with guidelines and solutions to tackle found issues. Vendor education on design style and content choices played a key part over the course of several months.
Context
I was brought in as a consultant to do a heuristic evaluation and to do a branding audit.

I would occasionally provide direct designs.

The most important work though was documentation of things beyond the original system that we needed to share with our vendor partners.
